ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT : Mike Russell
I’m a firefighter/paramedic, My wife is Tammy( also a longtime swarmer) we have 2 sons, Mike(13) and Ryan(12). We stay pretty busy year round with the kids different sports events! we like to travel when we have time.
How was I Introduced to CrossFit Swarm?
I had been hearing radio commercials for a different CrossFit gym and wanted to check it out. Then Brian Cleland (one of swarmer originals) told me about swarm. The rest is history.
How long have you been CrossFitting?
3 and a half years
My favorite Movement/WODs
Pull-ups, Bench press, Power Clean and Back Squat.
Least Favorite Movement/WOD:
Overhead Squat, Double Unders
My proudest moment so far:
Rx’ing Murph 3 times to date!
What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?
I was never a big gym guy so I like how CrossFit is prgrammed for you. Just show up and do the WOD and you are out in an hour or less. Plus the variety of the WOD’s work all parts of the body
What are you current goals?
To continue improving my overall physical fitness so I can preform my duties as a firefighter without putting myself or other at risk of injury. I definitely noticed an increase in my endurance since joining swarm,
What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout?
My first WOD involved thursters, I can remember how hard it was to walk up and down stairs the next day.
What I love most about CrossFit Swarm?
All the members and coaches are very friendly and supportive of each other. The coaches at Swarm are all great, they are very knowledgeable and are genuinely interested in all the members development.
